Description
Lanreotide, a cyclic somatostatin agonist shows a high binding affinity for the somatostatin receptor (SSTR) subtype 2 and has a 10-fold less affinity for receptor subtype 5. It is also a potent inhibitor of growth hormone secretion from pituitary cells. Furthermore, the octapeptide exhibits a direct antiproliferative effect in vivo and in vitro on the growth of cells or solid tumors from a human small cell lung carcinoma.
