Description
The amyloidogenic peptide hormone amylin 1-37 (or Islet Amyloid Polypeptide, IAPP), KCNTATCATQRLANFLVHSSNNFGAILSSTNVGSNTY amide, has been described in literature as a peptide originally identified after being isolated from the amyloid-rich pancreases of diabetic patients. hIAPP forms fibrillar peptide deposits in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans, which may be related to death of the insulin-producing islet β-cells in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
