KALA amphipathic peptide, a low-molecular weight cationic amphipathic peptide was able to bind to DNA, to destabilize membranes and to mediate transfection of plasmid DNA in various cell lines. Thus, KALA provides a starting point for a family of peptides that incorporate other functions to improve DNA delivery systems.
